Engaging Teachers, Students and Parents in Putting an end to Bullying in Trinidad and Tobago

As part of the Safe Schools Project supported and implemented by Deloitte & Touche, Trinidad and Tobago, SLM partnered with Deloitte to design a pilot training workshop for teachers, parents and school staff at East Mucurapo Secondary School in Port of Spain. In consultation with school administrators and other local stakeholders, SLM prepared a series of presentational and interactive materials for the five=day workshop, including a preliminary student survey, background readings, series of PowerPoint presentations, selected videos and role-plays with the objective of empowering participants to develop and enact a school based policy and implementation roadmap to prevent bullying in all of its forms at the school and in its feeder communities.

Guidelines and Standards for Self-Learning Materials in Syria and Palestine
From May, 2017 and January, 2018, SLM consultant Jean Bernard worked with the Education in Emergencies (EiE) team of the  UN Relief Works Agency (UNRWA) to help develop quality standards and implementation guideliones for the Agency's Self-Learning Programme.  The materials which include UNRWA TV and the Interactive Learning Program (ILP), are free to all users and are in line with the UNRWA system's new Curriculum Framework. They are currently used by Palestinian refugee families who are under siege in Syria are unable to get to school. 
  1. 2016-2017
    Mainstreaming CDRM into the Curriculum in Uganda
    With support from Protect Education in Insecurity and Conflict (PEIC) and in cooperation the National Curriculum Development Centre of Uganda (NCDC), SLM worked with Ugandan writers and illustrators to create a series of supplementary reading materials for Primary Grades 1-7 to enhance children's love of reading and strengthen themes of conflict prevention and care for the environment across the curriculum.

    "Deep Cuts in Granite" People 2 People Video Project
    This public service video features the comments or ordinary people who stand to be impacted by proposed cuts to public health and human services in the New Hampshire state budget. Speakers appeal to their state representatives and fellow citizens to maintain funding for essential community services such as 'Meals on Wheels', support for disabled children and adults, and families struggling with the growing opioid crisis in New Hampshire.

    Support to Community Workshops on Safe Space Design in Trinidad and Tobago
    Spectacle Learning Media was engaged to adapt the visual component of a set of internationally developed training manuals and workshop presentation materials to reflect the natural, architectural and social environment of Trinidad and Tobago. The overall objective of the training activity was to sensitize community leaders to the principles of safe environmental design as a means of reducing crime and and other forms of violence in their communities.

    Training Teacher Mentors in Yemen
    Spectacle Learning Media worked directly with the Yemeni Ministry of Education on the design and implementation of training manuals and media for the purpose of providing ongoing professional development resources for English teachers, trainers and supervisors in Yemen.

    Peace Messaging in South Sudan
    SLM Consultant Jean Bernard traveled to South Sudan to work with South Sudanese field workers to develop a community based peace messaging facilitators' guide and related audio and visual materials including posters, picture stories, and a music video. The project was sponsored by USAID's South Sudan Transition and Conflict Mitigation Program. The materials were designed and piloted by agricultural and animal health workers as part of their food security projects among the Nuer, Dinka and Murle communites of Jonglei State.
